We left Joshua Tree and moved onto San Bernardino. And it was still hot! At one point the car said it was 112 degrees (but its a dry heat). Mostly settled at 107. I know the desert can be beautiful, but still!
As I am a little crazy, and I like to take photos at night – I did just that. I count this as day 3, even though I was still in Joshua Tree. Even at night it was still close to 100 with a hot wind blowing. It was beautiful and with this, I can see the attraction of this place. The moon was a little too bright to allow the full set of stars to be seen, but I caught those later…..
The moon set around midnight – I, the nutty gal that I am, got up at 3am (hey, it’s 6am east coast time, that’s time to get up for me) to take some photos at the house. The funny part of this whole story is I was still in my nightgown as i was doing this. And it was still hot!!

And with this final photo, we said goodbye to Joshua Tree and moved onto San Bernardino. One place I didn’t get to see the last time I was here was the restored service station in Rancho Cucamonga (I say it like Bugs Bunny)
The bell cable even worked! The volunteers gave such good information, it was a pleasure to speak with them.
And finally our stay for the evening – the WigWam The history on this place is pretty cool: The Wigwam Motels, also known as the “Wigwam Villages“, is a motel chain in the United States built during the 1930s and 1940s. The rooms are built in the form of tipis, mistakenly referred to as wigwams.[3] It originally had seven different locations: two locations in Kentucky and one each in Alabama, Florida, Arizona, Louisiana, and California.
They are very distinctive historic landmarks. Two of the three surviving motels are located on historic U.S. Route 66: in Holbrook, Arizona, and in San Bernardino, California. All three of the surviving motels are listed on the National Register of Historic Places: the Wigwam Motel in Cave City, Kentucky, was listed in 1988 under the official designation of Wigwam Village #2; the Wigwam Motel in Arizona was listed as Wigwam Village #6 in 2002; and the Wigwam Motel in California was listed in 2012 as Wigwam Village #7. And so that ends day 3. Day 4 will take us to Barstow and the start of the Mojave Desert. But its a dry heat!
